Job Summary:
This job performs therapies on patients in accordance with! the physician’s order and departmental policy.
Functions in lieu of manager when necessary and makes assignments, handles personnel and assures proper staffing for oncoming shift.
Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities:
Acts independently and proficiently to perform all advanced respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and the Respiratory Care Guidelines (RT Consult).
Able to obtain blood gases from all sites.
Analyzes and reports results accurately.
Performs gas analyzer quality control and maintenance as needed.
Has advanced knowledge of artificial! airway management and equipment.
Is able to assist p! hysicians with bronchoscopy procedure.
Accurately and completely documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Adheres to department time and attendance standards.
Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team.
Provides a complete and accurate report.
Makes recommendations as appropriate.
Adheres to infection control practices.
Is a clinical leader in areas assigned, assisting and educating Respiratory Therapists, Technicians and other personnel in understanding the treatment and care of patients.
Assists/coordinates initial and annual competencies and ongoing staff education for all employees.
Makes out staff assignments and keeps management informed of patient care needs as necessary.
Also responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
Acts as a liaison between the department and o! ther services.
Assists in the development, implementation and auditing of quality initiatives.
Handles personnel management within their realm of authority and communicates actions to the manager.
Provides input for performance appraisals.
Complies with Leadership Institute Best Practice initiatives.
Requirements:
Education: Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Therapy, Associate degree or equivalent in Respiratory Therapy
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
5 or more years preferred.
License, Certification, Registry Requirements: BLS and RRT required.
Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in SC.
Certification required may include any or all of the following, depending on unit: ACLS, NRP, FCCS, NPS or PALS.
Instructor status may be required for any or all of these certifications ! listed depending on unit.
Special Training: Must be abl! e to effectively work in a team environment.
Strong communication, computer and organizational skills required.
