Description: SC Dept. of Health & Environmental Control is currently seeking to employ Physician II right now, this occupation will be assigned in South Carolina. Under limited supervision serves as Medical Consultant and provides medical leadership/guidance and assures processes for science based decisions. Performs duties requiring broad skills in acute disease epidemiology, public health preventive medical practice, and communicable diseases. Represents the Division of Acute Disease Epidemiology and the Division of Immunizations at state and national meetings as medical expert. Participates in the implementation of comprehensive immunizations program, evaluation of measures that maximize immunization program effectiveness. Monitors and investigates cases and outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases and other reportable diseases. Directs outbreak control measures in cooperation with DHEC staff and other medical practitioners. Analyzes and interprets vaccine preventable diseases data. This position is essential to provide timely and adequate response to calls from medical providers and citizens of South Carolina on immunization topics and events of public health significance.
Qualifications:
MD or DO degree and graduation from an accepted medical residency in family medicine/internal medicine, preventive medicine or pediatrics and five (5 years of clinical practice. Currently licensed or eligible within six (6) months to practice medicine in South Carolina. PREFERED: Two (2) years experience in Public Health, EIS experience is accepted. A Master's degree in Public Health or relevant degree may be substituted for two (2) years experience in Public Health. Extensive knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of medicine with specilazied knowledge in infectious diseases, epidemiology and public health. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external professionals and teh general public. Ability to present technical materials to a variety of audiences. Excellent oral, written and organizatinal skills. Competenance with routine office software and experience with statistical software.
