POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Amideast Egypt seeks an Expert to train the disability center staff of 15 public universities on the pre-designed procedure manual.
The Expert will work closely with the centers' staff to ensure the understanding of the accommodation system and how to apply it in the university to achieve inclusivity and accessibility.

This request for trainers is part of the U.S. - Egypt Higher Education Initiative, Public University Scholarships Program, funded by USAID and supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, administered by Amideast. The program is establishing and developing a sustainable University Disability Service Center at fifteen public universities to support the full participation of students with disabilities and ensure their equal access to higher education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct up to 24 hours training workshops for up to 60 center staff of the 15 universities (center managers, deputy managers and two staff from each university) on developing a procedure manual, the objective of the workshops is to understand the comprehensive procedure manual for accommodations provided to students with disabilities that created for the pilot universities and apply the necessary changes based on the status of each university The goal of the manual is to provide guidance and support for faculty and staff in meeting the needs of students with disabilities in accordance with disability Egyptian laws and regulations.

Tasks and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Define and introduce what is the procedure manual for center managers and staff
  • Provide an overview of the purpose and scope of the manual and outline the legal framework and policies governing accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Train the center managers and employees on the role and responsibilities of the Disability Services centers, including assessment and verification of disabilities, eligibility criteria, and accommodation request process
  • Assist the center managers and staff in developing the scope, tasks, activities, limitations of the procedure manual
  • Train the staff on the reasonable accommodation process and steps
  • Provide guidance and best practices for audience to ensure that accommodations are provided in a timely and effective manner while maintaining academic standards
  • Provide guidelines for issues related to privacy and confidentiality
  • Provide guidance and best practices for staff who are entitled to work with students with disabilities outside of the classroom on accessibility of campus facilities, transportation, and communication issues
  • Outline the policies and procedures related to compliance with disability Egyptian laws related to accommodations for students with disabilities, as well as reporting and record-keeping requirements
  • Finally Provide guidance to the center managers and deputies how to train faculty staff and students with disabilities on the procedure manual

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years training experience, preferably in training public institutions.
  • Disability experience
  • Ability to plan, model, coach and provide feedback to individuals to improve inclusivity approach
  • Experience implementing effective practices
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

DELIVERABLES:

  • Final report
  • Updated procedure manual, based on the feedback at the training.
  • Training schedule and tools needed plan.
  • Training materials and resources.
